01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Just off Maruhachi-dori, not far from the bustling Sunamachi Ginza shopping street, Sanryu has long served the Kitasuna community as a welcoming everyday dining spot. Inside, a television murmurs in the background of a calm, time-honored dining room, welcoming solo guests to settle in comfortably for an unhurried, nourishing bowl.

Pairing noodles with rice bowls, and comforting loaded pots

The backbone of the menu is a generous roster of combination sets, pairing traditional cold mori, tanuki, or tempura soba with mini rice bowls such as katsudon or curry rice. Tanuki soba, draped in fragrant tempura flakes that soften into the savory broth, makes a deeply satisfying midday meal when matched with a compact crumbed pork cutlet bowl. The egg-topped nabeyaki udon is another staple, simmering hot in its broth and easily augmented with a chewy rice cake for a heartier, multi-layered bowl.

From Chinese-style noodles to izakaya-style side dishes

While soba is the calling card, the breadth of the kitchen also extends to chuka soba, gomoku wonton noodles, and robust miso ramen. The miso ramen brings together a mellow white miso soup fragrant with sesame oil and straight, slender noodles, with requests for firmer noodles happily accommodated. Side dishes such as miso-simmered offal and crisp fried chicken allow guests to treat the counter like an unpretentious drinking spot, washing down savory bites with a medium bottle of beer or a lemon sour before settling on a bowl of finishing noodles.

Sanryu runs continuously from 11:00 to 20:00 every day except Wednesday, making it a reliable destination from a late lunch through an early dinner. Because payments are cash only, having coins or bills ready before sitting down is recommended.
